FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How are the campers supervised in the dormitory?
We take the care and safety of each camper very seriously.  Members of our camp staff stay in the dormitory with the students.  12-15 coaches will be in the building to monitor behavior, ensuring each student has a great experience.

Furthermore, the first day of camp we review our rules of conduct so the athletes understand what behavior will be acceptable.  Any athlete who violates one of these "common sense" rules will have their parent/guardian notified and will be immediately expelled from camp with no refund being given.  There is NEVER a time when campers have unsupervised time.

Can the campers check out of camp to attend games with their respective summer teams?
Yes. However, we will require an adult to sign them out of camp and back in as well.  The decision to leave camp for another commitment is left completely up to the family.  For example, roughly half of the campers will leave one time for a game. Unless previous arrangements have been made between our office and one of the parents/guardians, we will NOT allow an athlete to leave camp on his/her own.

Can we as parents/guardians observe camp?
Parents/guardians can observe any part of camp during the week.  Each night the campers will be apprised of the next days schedule for their benefit as well as ours. We do not follow the same plan every week.  We will tailor the content to the participants ability level each week.  Because of this we will not give you an itinerary at check-in.

Can we choose our camper's roommate?
Please indicate your preference on your application.  Each room has 2 beds, so only 2 people in a room.  However, if possible, we will arrange to place friends next to each other.

How do we know our camper has been admitted?
If we have space available, confirmation, check-in procedures, and directions to the campus will be mailed the day following the receipt of your application materials. If space is not available you will be notified by telephone.

Is there room for every applicant?
No. We have had to turn down applications every year that we have had camp. There are limits each week by age and camp. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. We will not accept registrations by fax or phone out of fairness to those who register via mail or online.

How quickly do the camps fill?
It varies from camp to camp, but we usually are forced to close some of our individual weeks in mid-April. Again, please call our camp line or check out our web site for updated information. Early registration is strongly encouraged.

Are the athletes kept separate on the field?
Yes. We separate the players by age so they will never be with players more than one year older or younger than they are.

Can we check-in late or check-out early?
Yes. If you have other commitments we can accommodate your schedule. We do ask that in each case we be notified in advance. Late check-in can be arranged by calling our camp office and leaving us a message as to when you will arrive in camp. Early check-out can also be arranged in the same manner, however, an adult will be required to be present to release the camper unless prior arrangements have been approved.

How many coaches are in camp?
We will have one coach for every 9 players Depending on the emphasis in a particular session the ratio may be as small as one coach per player. Due to our insistence on maintaining the integrity of these numbers we do close enrollment once we are full. Early registration is strongly encouraged.

How many athletes are in a typical group?
It varies slightly depending on the camp week, but we average about 15 players in each age group. For example: Fifteen 10 year olds, fifteen 11 year olds, etc. Numbers will vary in our specialty camps however.

Should our camper bring a bat?
It is not necessary. However, most campers do bring their own bats simply because they are more comfortable with their own bat. Please have all equipment marked if you do bring your own.

Is a new physical exam required?
We do not require a physical for camp. However, each camper is required to complete a new medical history form each year they attend camp.

What if the athlete requires medication?
Our on-staff first-aid personnel must be notified of the condition during check-in so they may monitor your athlete. Every week we'll have a few campers with conditions that require medical attention. We can assist with any potential problems if we know about them in advance.

Are special meal plans available?
We eat all our meal in the University dining hall and all meals are all you can eat buffet style. There is something for all interests and eating habits with unlimited portions.

How many of the players in camp stay overnight (resident campers)?
More than 90% of the campers enrolled in programs offering overnight accommodations stay in the dormitory. They are assigned roommates by age and all rooms are also grouped by age. Members of the coaching staff are assigned rooms between age groups to ensure the players feel as comfortable as possible with other campers.

How do we watch our athlete during the Metrodome session?
Specific times and directions will be given at check-in. There is no extra charge for viewing activity in the Metrodome.

Do you have rules regarding behavior and what happens if a camper violates a rule?
Yes. All camp rules are presented on the first day of the session. We have "common sense" rules that we require the campers to follow at all times. ANY violation of these rules will result in immediate expulsion from camp with no chance of a refund. We feel this policy is necessary to ensure a quality and safe experience for all campers.

How do the athletes stay on schedule during the day?
We review the next day's schedule as we conclude the final session of the day. Our staff will awaken the campers each morning for breakfast. We will then alert the camper's 15 minutes and then 5 minutes before we leave for the field for each of the day's sessions.

What do you do in case of rain?
We will attempt to continue with the same schedule or as close as we possibly can. The football building will be used whenever possible as well as utilization of lectures and videotape analysis. In other words, instruction never stops during the week regardless of the weather.
